Saints of our region
The Grand-Est region, rich in Christian history, has given birth to many saints. Among them:
- Saint Nicholas (†343), Bishop of Myra and patron saint of the Lorrainers, famous for his generosity and miracles.
- Saint Odile (†720), patron saint of Alsace, founder of the monastery of Mont Sainte-Odile.
- Saint Remi (†533), Bishop of Reims, known for having baptized Clovis, King of the Franks.
- Saint Leo IX (†1054), reforming pope from Eguisheim, in Alsace.
- Saint Joan of Arc (1412-1431), national heroine born in Domrémy, in Lorraine, and canonized for her role in the liberation of France.
