Hubert of Liège (c. 656-727) is a Christian saint, known as the patron saint of hunters. Coming from the Frankish nobility, he led a worldly life until a striking vision during a hunt: a stag carrying a luminous cross between its antlers. This event converted him to the Christian faith. He became a monk, then bishop of Maastricht and Liège, where he worked for the evangelization of the Ardennes. He fought pagan practices and promoted charity. He died in 727 and was canonized for his miracles. His legend inspired the tradition of the "bellowing of Saint Hubert", and he remains venerated in several regions of Europe.
