Peter Fourier

Peter Fourier (1565–1640) was a French Catholic priest and reformer born in Lorraine. He is best known for his commitment to religious and social reform in the Vosges region, particularly in Mattaincourt, where he was parish priest for over 20 years. He worked for the education of girls by founding the Canonesses of Saint-Augustin of the Notre-Dame Congregation with Alix Le Clerc dedicated to free education. Exiled for his positions, he continued his pastoral work until his death in 1640 and was canonized in 1897. His legacy lives on in the fields of education and spiritual reform.
