Saint Gabriel, or the Archangel Gabriel, is one of the three major archangels recognized in Christian tradition.
In Jewish, Muslim, and Christian traditions, Gabriel is seen as a privileged messenger of God.
He is often depicted holding a lily, a symbol of purity, or a trumpet announcing the good news.
He is the one who announced to the Virgin Mary that she would give birth to Jesus (the Annunciation).
He also announced the birth of John the Baptist to Zechariah in the temple.
His feast day is celebrated on September 29, the feast day of the archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael.
