Bonneval Abbey, located near Relanges in the Vosges, is a former priory of regular canons of the order of Saint Augustine, founded in the 11th century.
Originally, it was a simple hermitage established around 1070 by Wichard, brother of Engibalde, founder of Hérival.
Thanks to donations, the hermitage developed and became a priory in the 13th century.
The priory enjoyed great importance and a notable attendance at its church until the 18th century. However, it was destroyed in 1793, leaving only part of the church choir, a ribbed vault and a few pillar bases.
Today, the remains of Bonneval Priory bear witness to its historical and religious past, offering visitors an insight into medieval monastic architecture in the Vosges region.
