The
Saint-Marcel
Church
in
Rainville,
built
in
1790,
is
a
representative
example
of
religious
architecture
from
the
end
of
the
18th
century.
Built
to
replace
an
old
church
located
on
a
hill,
it
was
located
in
the
center
of
the
village
to
facilitate
access
for
residents.
The
bell
tower,
rising
to
34
meters,
houses
three
bells.
The
largest,
weighing
400
kilograms
and
measuring
90
centimeters
in
diameter,
was
blessed
in
1868.
It
bears
the
name
"Marie"
and
is
a
testament
to
the
expertise
of
the
founders
of
the
time.
The
interior
of
the
church
has
a
sober
architecture,
characteristic
of
the
post-revolutionary
period,
with
barrel
vaults
and
walls
made
of
gray
rubble
and
limestone.
The
decorative
elements
are
minimalist,
reflecting
the
artistic
trends
of
the
end
of
the
18th
century.
