First
mention
of
the
village
under
the
name
of
"Rainovilla",
derived
from
the
Latin
"Ranarum
Villae",
meaning
"village
of
frogs".
1790:
Construction
of
the
Saint-Marcel
church,
replacing
the
old
church
located
on
a
hill
outside
the
village.
This
new
church
is
built
in
the
center
of
the
village
to
facilitate
access
for
residents.
19th
century:
Construction
of
the
Saint-Jean
chapel
on
the
Saint-Jean
hill,
a
place
of
pilgrimage
and
local
festivities.
The
current
chapel
dates
from
the
20th
century,
replacing
an
older
structure.
2021:
Official
adoption
of
the
Rainville
coat
of
arms,
representing
a
green
frog,
a
silver
alerion,
a
crosseron
and
a
bell,
symbolizing
the
history
and
heritage
of
the
commune.
