Commune of the Vosges (88300) with 55 inhabitants.
Tilleux,
historically
mentioned
under
the
names
of
Tilocus
and
Tilieux,
has
a
history
closely
linked
to
that
of
the
marquisate
of
Removille.
In
1621,
this
marquisate
was
erected
in
favor
of
the
house
of
Bassompierre,
thus
integrating
a
large
part
of
Tilleux.
In
addition,
the
commune
also
depended
on
the
lord
of
Paquier,
baron
of
Dommartin.
Under
the
Ancien
Régime,
Tilleux
came
under
the
bailiwick
of
Neufchâteau.
From
1790
to
the
year
IX
of
the
Republic,
the
commune
was
part
of
the
canton
of
Beaufremont.
The
name
"Tilleux"
could
derive
from
the
Latin
"Tillutum",
meaning
"place
planted
with
lime
trees".
A
document
from
1148
mentions
a
certain
Albericus
de
Tillut,
possibly
a
local
lord
or
a
benefactor
of
the
church.
