Commune of the Vosges (88630) with 660 inhabitants.
In the 2nd century, the village, then called Solimariaca, was an important vicus on the Roman road linking Trier to Lyon, playing a central role in the trade of the time.
In 362, under the reign of Emperor Julian the Apostate, Saint Élophe, originally from the region, was martyred for his Christian faith. According to legend, after his decapitation, he carried his head to the top of a hill, where he wished to be buried.
In the 15th century, a chapel dedicated to Saint Élophe was erected on the supposed site of his martyrdom, on the banks of the Vair. This chapel houses a bas-relief dated 1614, listed as a historical monument.
On July 1, 1964, the municipalities of Soulosse, Saint-Élophe, Brancourt and Fruze merged to form the current municipality of Soulosse-sous-Saint-Élophe.
