Commune of Haute-Marne (52700) of 85 inhabitants.
Middle Ages: The village is mentioned for the first time in medieval documents. At that time, Orquevaux was under the influence of local lordships, and the current castle, although it has been remodeled since, probably finds its origins in an early medieval fortification.
17th-18th centuries: Orquevaux developed around its castle and its agricultural lands. Over the centuries, the castle was remodeled, taking on the appearance of a pleasure residence, characteristic of the architecture of the manor houses of the time.
French Revolution (1789): Like many noble estates, the castle of Orquevaux went through uncertain times. It was preserved, but the Revolution brought changes to local properties and restructured power.
19th century: This is the golden age of the great residences in Orquevaux. The castle is restored and transformed into a more elegant building, in a romantic style that seduces the aristocracy of the time. Beautiful bourgeois houses are also built, giving the village a particular charm.
20th century: The wars of the 20th century mark the village, although the large residences, including the castle, are preserved. Over the century, the castle has undergone various uses and continues to attract with its architecture and history.
Today, Orquevaux preserves these residences and its castle as witnesses to its noble and rural past.
