Saint-Remy Church

This stained glass window depicts a biblical scene in which a saint, probably Jesus or an apostle, is preaching. Gift of Canon Paul Normand, priest of St Ambroise in Paris, born in Nijon on August 15, 1874.

This stained glass window depicts a biblical scene in which a saint, probably Jesus or an apostle, preaches before an assembly composed of several human figures. The saint stands in the center, dressed in a tunic and a mantle in rich tones (purple and gold, symbols of royalty and divinity). He is haloed, which marks his holiness. His right hand is raised in a gesture of blessing or teaching. On the right, a figure seated on a throne attracts attention with his contemplative attitude. Under this throne, a stylized owl is represented, adding an intriguing symbolic dimension to the scene. The other figures are seated or standing, in various postures of listening or reflection. A woman on the left seems meditative, while a man on the right could be skeptical or pensive. The architectural and ornamental decoration of the stained glass window is rich in details: floral motifs, a cross surrounded by a laurel wreath at the top, and an overall composition structured around a mandorla. At the bottom, an inscription names the sponsor of the stained glass window: Paul Normand, canon and priest of Saint-Ambroise in Paris.
