The Saint-Martin Church of Rouceux, located in the commune of Neufchâteau, is a building whose origins date back to the 12th century.
Initially, it consisted of a single nave and an apse. In the 15th century, two side chapels were added, thus forming a false transept.
Unfortunately, at the end of the 16th century, the church suffered partial destruction during the Wars of Religion.
The architecture of the church reflects this historical evolution, mixing Romanesque and Gothic elements.
The ribbed vaults and elegant arches give the interior an atmosphere of meditation. The walls are pierced with ribbed windows, formerly decorated with stained glass windows illustrating biblical scenes, filtering the light to create captivating chromatic effects.
Inside, the main altar is distinguished by its sculptural finesse, with religious motifs and floral details symbolizing devotion. The antique carved wooden furniture, including the pews and pulpit, demonstrates craftsmanship, with simple but evocative ornamental details. Polychrome wooden statues of saints, including a representation of Saint Martin, the patron saint of the church, add a spiritual dimension to the ensemble.
