Orléans,
delivering
the
panegyric
of
Joan
of
Arc
in
the
Cathedral
of
Sainte-Croix,
exclaimed:
"I
would
have
liked
to
visit
these
places,
to
see
this
poor
house,
these
banks
of
the
Meuse,
this
valley
from
which
Orléans
and
France
received
God's
help.
It
is
there
that
grew
among
the
wild
flowers,
simple
and
pure
like
them,
in
the
most
lovely
innocence,
this
pious
and
sweet
child.
Yes,
I
would
have
liked
to
walk
through
these
meadows
where
she
led
her
father's
sheep;
to
sit
unknown
on
these
banks,
at
the
foot
of
some
old
oak
tree,
and
to
meditate
there,
in
silence,
to
tell
you
again,
this
incomparable
story
where
the
living
breath
of
the
Lord
animates
everything
and
where
miracles
shine
on
all
sides,
like
the
stars
of
the
firmament
