Commune
of
the
Vosges
(88630)
with
115
inhabitants.
Domrémy-la-Pucelle
is
a
legendary
village,
known
throughout
the
world
as
the
birthplace
of
Joan
of
Arc,
the
famous
French
heroine
and
saint.
Born
in
1412
into
a
peasant
family,
Joan
grew
up
in
this
village
in
Lorraine,
marked
by
a
deep
faith
and
mystical
visions
that
would
change
the
history
of
France.
She
is
said
to
have
heard
her
first
"voices"
there
-
those
of
Saint
Michael,
Saint
Catherine
and
Saint
Margaret
-
who
asked
her
to
save
France.
It
was
from
Domrémy
that
she
left
her
modest
life
to
fulfill
her
destiny
by
leading
French
troops
against
the
English
during
the
Hundred
Years'
War.
Today,
Domrémy-la-Pucelle
is
a
place
of
remembrance,
where
Joan's
birthplace,
as
well
as
the
basilica
built
in
her
honour,
attract
visitors
and
pilgrims
from
all
over
the
world,
celebrating
the
legacy
of
the
"Maid
of
Orléans".
