Saint Ursula is a legendary martyr from the 4th century, highly venerated in Lorraine and Europe. According to tradition, she was a Breton princess who went on a pilgrimage to Rome with 11,000 companions. On the way back, they were captured by the Huns in Cologne and massacred for refusing to renounce their faith or marry pagans. Ursula was killed by an arrow. Her cult developed in the Middle Ages, particularly with the Ursuline order, dedicated to the education of young girls. She is the patron saint of teachers and young girls. Her influence was strong in Lorraine, where several churches are dedicated to her.
