Saint Rosalia

Saint Rosalia (c. 1130-1166) is a Sicilian saint venerated in Lorraine and Europe. Born into a noble family in Palermo, she chose to renounce the world to lead the life of a hermit in a cave on Mount Pellegrino. Dedicating her life to prayer and penance, she lived in solitude until her death. In 1624, while the plague was ravaging Palermo, her relics were discovered after a vision and carried in procession, putting an end to the epidemic. Her cult spread rapidly, particularly in France and Lorraine, where she is invoked against contagious diseases. She is the patron saint of Palermo and hermits.
