Saint Elophe, originally from Grand in the Vosges, lived in the 3rd century.
A fervent Christian, he actively evangelized the Neufchâteau region.
During the persecutions under Emperor Julian the Apostate, he was arrested, tortured, and then beheaded in Soulosse, around the year 362.
According to legend, after his beheading, he walked with his head in his hands to the place of his tomb.
His cult is widespread in the Vosges, particularly around Neufchâteau and Soulosse.
Saint Elophe is considered a martyr and a symbol of fidelity to the Christian faith in the face of persecution.
His liturgical feast is celebrated on October 16.
