The Mouzon floods in Neufchâteau have marked the history of the city on several occasions, causing significant flooding that affected homes, infrastructure and agricultural land. Among the most significant floods, that of 1910 remains one of the most memorable, due to the considerable damage it inflicted on riverside neighborhoods.
Other notable floods occurred in 1983 and 2006, causing rapid rises in the watercourse and leading to evacuation and protection operations. These floods were often aggravated by unfavorable weather conditions and runoff, highlighting the vulnerability of the city to the natural hazards of the Mouzon.
These events have also led to developments to try to limit the impact of flooding in this exposed area.
