Saint-Pierre Church

This stained glass window depicts the encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well.

This stained-glass window, with its arc-shaped top, is arranged in a single large bay window. The composition is read horizontally. Two figures dominate the scene. On the left, seated and surrounded by a Christ-like halo, Jesus Christ wears reddish-blond hair, a short beard, a red tunic, and his celestial blue cloak. He points to the heavens with his right hand. On the right, a woman dressed in yellow and pink carries a pitcher. She is a servant or water carrier. The scene takes place near a stone well in the lower register. Here we witness Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan woman, a scene taken from the Gospel according to Saint John (Jn 4:5-26). The setting is soberly suggested by a few stone slabs, a masonry well, columns, and an arch in the background, evoking ancient village architecture. A vine winds above the scene, adding an obvious symbolic touch: Christ will later define himself as the true vine (John 15:1).
