Saint-Pierre Church

This stained glass window depicts a scene from the Holy Family. Gift of Miss M.G.

This single-lancet stained-glass window, topped with a semicircular arch, depicts a scene of the Holy Family. Three figures stand out in the center. The bearded man on the right, wearing a tunic tucked up and holding an axe, is Joseph the carpenter; the young adolescent in the center, with a Christ-like halo, is Jesus; and finally, the woman in blue and pink on the left, carrying a distaff with a gentle, steady gaze, is Mary, his mother. The scene is that of a carpentry workshop. A vase containing lilies, at the bottom left, recalls the purity of the Virgin and that of Joseph. In the background, buildings and a tree situate the action in Nazareth. The plant and ornamental borders are richly decorated with palmettes, volutes, and gilded scrolls typical of the Beaux-Arts style. This stained-glass window was a gift from Mademoiselle M.G.
