Saint-Pierre Church

This stained glass window, signed J. Benoit, immerses us in the heart of the Nativity and the adoration of the Magi. Gift of the Humbert Rolin family.

In a rich vertical composition crowned by a semicircular arch, a rounded arch typical of the 19th century, this stained-glass window immerses us in the heart of the Nativity and the Adoration of the Magi. In the center, Mary sits enthroned, holding the haloed Infant Jesus on her knees. Beside her, Joseph, also wearing a halo. Around them, a motley group of figures converges. On the left, the Magi are identifiable by their sumptuous garments and their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. On the right, shepherds and other faithful have come to worship the Messiah. The star that guides the kings points its rays at Mary. The architectural setting in the background, made of a wooden frame, straw, and exposed stone, under a night sky, evokes the stable of Bethlehem. Above, an angel's head overlooks the scene. Other angel heads are integrated into the outlines, in a decorative style typical of the 19th century. This stained-glass window is signed J. Benoit and was donated by the Humbert Rolin family.
