This stained glass window represents the martyrdom of Saint Paul.
This stained-glass window, designed by the J. Benoit workshop in Nancy, features a semicircular arch. It is part of a highly theatrical vertical composition and depicts the last moments of Saint Paul, kneeling just before his execution. In the foreground, the saint is distinguished by his white beard and halo, his eyes closed. He is dressed in a green tunic and a purple cloak. Behind him, the executioner, dressed in red and yellow, holds a massive sword, the instrument of torture. A Roman citizen, Paul was beheaded and not crucified, a fact faithfully preserved in the scene. To the left, two Roman soldiers observe the scene. In the background, we see the trees of a Mediterranean landscape and the outline of a classical building, reminiscent of Rome, where Paul was traditionally executed.
