Church of Our Lady of the Assumption of Landaville

This stained glass window illustrates the appearance of the archangel Saint Michael to the future Saint Joan of Arc.

This stained glass window illustrates the appearance of the Archangel Saint Michael to Joan of Arc when she was still a young peasant girl in Domrémy. We observe a scene in the middle of nature, with Joan kneeling on the left, dressed simply in a brown peasant dress and a red kerchief on her head. She is looking towards the angel, in an attitude of prayer and meditation. The angel, in armor and with red wings, is surrounded by a halo and bathed in divine light. He holds a sword in one hand and points to the heavens with the other with his index finger. The golden light that surrounds him contrasts with the darker landscape of the rest of the composition. A sheep on the right recalls Joan's rural origins and her role as a shepherdess before her military destiny. The stained glass window is signed Janin Nancy 1922 and was offered by Mr. and Mrs. HENRY Adam in memory of the BICHON.GAUDEZ couple.
