This stained glass window depicts the scene of the Apparition of the Virgin Mary to Bernadette Soubirous. Gift of the Count of Alsace.
This stained glass window depicts the scene of the Apparition of the Virgin Mary to Bernadette Soubirous at the Grotto of Massabielle in Lourdes in 1858. On the right, the Virgin stands on a rock, surrounded by a golden halo of light and wearing a halo in which one can read the words: "I am the Immaculate Conception," a declaration she made to Bernadette on March 25, 1858. The Virgin is dressed in white, belted with a blue ribbon, with golden roses adorning her feet. On the left, Bernadette kneels in prayer, holding her rosary in her hands, symbolizing her devotion and wonder at the heavenly vision. The center is dominated by the main scene, while the border is decorated with floral and geometric ornamental motifs. The bright, contrasting colors—blue, red, green, and gold—give the window a luminosity that invites meditation.
