This scene represents the apparition of the Sacred Heart to Sainte-Marguerite-Marie-Alacoque.
This scene represents the apparition of the Sacred Heart to Sainte-Marguerite-Marie-Alacoque, a Visitandine nun in Paray-le-Monial. On the right, we see Jesus Christ, recognizable by his golden halo marked with a cross. He is dressed in a large red and blue cloak. He points to his Sacred Heart, visible on his chest, surrounded by a radiant light. To the left of Christ is Sainte-Marguerite-Marie-Alacoque, a nun, kneeling, wearing a black habit with a white veil, in an attitude of prayer and fervent contemplation. The entire scene takes place in an interior evoked by a decor of curtains, with clouds suggesting a celestial apparition. The borders are made of a very rich floral decoration, in bright and contrasting colors typical of the period.
