Saint-Pierre - Saint-Paul Church

This stained glass window shows on the left the apparition of the Virgin Mary in Lourdes and on the right, the apparition of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

This two-lancet stained-glass window depicts, on the left, the apparition of the Virgin Mary in Lourdes. The scene depicts Bernadette Soubirous praying before the Massabielle grotto, where the Virgin appeared to her in 1858. The Virgin Mary is dressed in white, wearing a blue sash and holding a rosary in a rocky setting with a spring. The inscription at the bottom, "Don de la Paroisse," indicates that this stained-glass window was donated by the parishioners. On the right, the apparition of the Sacred Heart. It shows Christ in a white tunic and red mantle appearing to Marguerite-Marie Alacoque. Christ shows her his flaming Sacred Heart, surrounded by a crown of thorns and surmounted by a cross. The nun is kneeling in adoration. The architectural background suggests a monastery. The inscription at the bottom, "Don de la Congrégation," indicates that this window was financed by a religious community. The work is signed J.JANIN Nancy. Each scene is framed by neo-Gothic ornamentation, made of floral motifs, golden scrolls and openwork backgrounds imitating lace decorations.
