Saint-Léger Church of Soulaucourt-sur-Mouzon

This stained glass window shows the confrontation of Saint-Léger with the Merovingian king Childéric II or Thierry III.

This stained glass window, made in 1959 by the Gross workshop in Nancy, adopts a modern style with bright colours and stylised shapes. It depicts a haloed bishop in liturgical habit facing a king, surrounded by secondary characters. The main character, on the right, is probably Saint-Léger, he is identifiable by his gold stole, his mitre and his crosier. He faces the Merovingian king Childéric II. He is seated and wears an ornate crown and a red cape. Secondary figures symbolise the king's entourage and give depth to the scene. The soldier's armour and helmet recall earthly authority.
