This stained glass window depicts the multiplication of the loaves and fishes.
This stained glass window depicts a key episode in the New Testament: the multiplication of the loaves and fishes, as recounted in the Gospels. The window is divided into two main lancets, topped with a rose window decorated with decorative motifs. Bright colours – notably gold, purple, blue and red – are used with great skill to create a spiritual and luminous atmosphere. The composition is dynamic and balanced, naturally directing the gaze towards Christ, the focal point of the scene. The details of the clothing, faces and postures bear witness to the meticulous work of the J. Benoit workshop in Nancy. In the centre right of the composition, Jesus Christ, dressed in a white tunic and a golden cloak, is immediately identifiable thanks to his cruciferous halo. His posture is majestic, marked by gentleness and benevolence. He is holding out a loaf of bread to an old man. A young boy is holding the basket filled with pieces of bread, a direct symbol of the miracle he performs. At his side, several disciples observe the scene with respectful attention. On the left, the crowd that benefited from the miracle is represented. Men, women and children receive the bread with gratitude, expressing various attitudes: meditation, prayer or wonder.
