This colorful stained-glass window depicts a scene from the Gospel of St. John: the raising of Lazarus by Jesus. It is one of Christ's most spectacular miracles, a harbinger of his own resurrection. At the top right of the composition, Jesus, wearing a halo, raises his right hand in a gesture of divine authority, while his left hand seems to reach toward the tomb: a gesture both of blessing and a call to life. He is dressed in a red tunic and a pale green and pink cloak edged with gold. Below, Lazarus, dressed in white shrouds, begins to stand up, still half-wrapped in funeral wrappings. His pale face, turned toward Jesus, betrays a mixture of astonishment and newfound peace. Beside him, Martha (probably the kneeling woman in yellow and blue) and Mary, her sister, both praying, display intense emotion. The faces express hope, amazement, and gratitude. In the background, the disciples—or perhaps the witnesses—watch the scene, some in amazement, others in admiration.
