This figurative stained glass window tells the story of the apparition of the Virgin Mary to Sainte-Bernadette-Soubirous, in Lourdes in 1858.
This figurative stained-glass window depicts the apparition of the Virgin Mary to Saint Bernadette Soubirous in Lourdes in 1858. The whole is contained within an ogival bay, typical of religious neo-Gothic architecture, and is signed in the lower left corner by the J. Benoît workshop of Nancy. The scene takes place in a grotto, symbolizing that of Massabielle in Lourdes. On the left, the haloed Virgin Mary stands, dressed in white with a blue sash tied at the waist, holding a long rosary in her right hand. Golden rays envelop her. In the lower right corner, Saint Bernadette Soubirous kneels, also holding a rosary, mirroring that of the Virgin. Her head is haloed. In the background, still on the right, another female figure is depicted carrying bundles of wood.
