On the left, the Franciscan monk, Saint Anthony of Padua, is identifiable by his brown habit, tonsure, halo, and especially because he holds a monstrance containing the Blessed Sacrament. Opposite him is a mule kneeling before the monstrance, in a posture of adoration. On the right, figures witnessing the scene, including a man in a red habit (probably the owner of the mule, a heretic, a believer) and a woman. In the background, we see medieval urban architecture (church, houses, towers).
