Saint-Élophe Church

This stained glass window depicts Jesus, under the iconography of the Sacred Heart. At his feet, probably Sainte-Marguerite-Marie-Alacoque. Gift of Monsieur the Count of Alsace.

The stained glass window depicting Jesus, under the iconography of the Sacred Heart, is shown standing in a natural setting, surrounded by red foliage. His right hand is placed on his flaming heart surrounded by thorns, while his left hand is open towards a nun kneeling in prayer. The latter is most likely Saint Marguerite-Marie Alacoque, identifiable by the classic scene of her mystical visions. She is dressed in the habit of nuns. The central scene is surrounded by a decorated medallion, while the border takes up ornaments inspired by rosettes and flora. The glass painting technique makes it possible to render the details of faces, folds of clothing, and expressions of devotion. The Sacred Heart of Jesus, the focal point of the composition, expresses Christian piety focused on divine love and mercy. Red also symbolises Christ’s sacrificial love, while Marguerite-Marie’s kneeling posture evokes humility and adoration. At the bottom, an inscription states: “Gift of Mgr the Count of Alsace”, which attests to the patronage linked to this stained glass window.
