Saint-Èvre Church

The stained glass window illustrates a passage from the Gospel according to Saint Matthew (Chapter 5, verses 44-45)

The stained glass window illustrates a passage from the Gospel according to Saint Matthew (Chapter 5 verses 44-45): "But I say to you: Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven. Indeed, he makes his sun rise on the wicked" This quote is inscribed in a cartouche at the bottom of the stained glass window. Christ is represented in bust, in the center of a medallion. He raises one hand in blessing and holds the other close to his heart, in a gesture of compassion. The cartouche contains the Gospel text. The frame of the stained glass window is decorated with bunches of grapes and ears of wheat, Eucharistic symbols. At the very bottom, the sponsors have left their names: Marie Lelièvre and Charles Allon This stained glass window appears to date from the 20th century, made in a simplified neo-Gothic style. The colored glass panels, organized in a geometric mosaic, reflect the aesthetics of the glassworks active after the reconstructions following the First World War.
