Also known as Fraichefontaine Abbey.
Froidefontaine Abbey, founded in the 12th century in Liffol-le-Grand, is a former Cistercian monastery steeped in history and spirituality.
Built in a peaceful setting, this establishment reflected the values of austerity and meditation specific to the Cistercian order.
Over the centuries, the abbey played a central role in the religious and economic life of the region, before declining and being largely destroyed during the troubles of the French Revolution.
Today, although only ruins remain, the site of Froidefontaine remains a place full of memories, attracting visitors and history enthusiasts, and testifying to the lasting influence of the Cistercians in Liffol-le-Grand.
Détruite au XVIIème siècle, sa superficie était d'environ 1200m2.
La vallée était appelée Buffiney, ou Froidefontaine, d'où le nom de l'Abbaye.
